Why Moissanite?

The brilliance of a diamond, without the compromises

At 1HundredCuts, moissanite is the star stone behind every piece we make. It's not a "diamond imitation" or a lesser alternative — it's a stone with its own identity, and with advantages that often surpass those of a traditional diamond. Here's what you should know:

More brilliance than a diamond

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond. In simple terms: it reflects more light and produces more colorful flashes (what's known as "fire"). Under natural light, a well-cut moissanite can actually look more alive than a diamond of the same size.

Near-diamond hardness

On the Mohs scale, diamond sits at 10 — the maximum possible hardness. Moissanite comes right behind it at 9.25. That makes it practically indestructible for everyday wear: it resists scratches, knocks, and the wear and tear of being worn daily — something softer stones (like cubic zirconia) simply can't handle.

Exceptional clarity

Our pieces are set with VVS1 (very very slightly included) moissanite in D color, the highest and most colorless grade that exists on the gemstone grading scale. That means stones that are practically flawless to the naked eye, with no visible inclusions.
